KUANTAN: Pahang is ranked second after Kuala Lumpur in terms of offering the largest number of hotel rooms in the country. State Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin (BN-Lanchang) said a total of 29,880 rooms were offered in hotels and guest houses located in 11 districts throughout the state. Speaking on the final day of the state assembly sitting, he said most of the premises, including the lesser known hotels and guest houses have been listed for visitors to stay throughout the Visit Pahang Year next year. "Hotel names and locations are listed in our pamphlets as we want people who travel here to have a wide choice to choose for accommodation.
Even the less famous hotels are not left out from our promotional campaigns. "The East Coast Economic Region Development Council will also do their part to assist the hotel operators by offering special incentives for them to promote their respective premises," he said, providing additional information when replying to a question from Tengku Zulpuri Shah Raja Puji(DAP-Mentakab) on the number of hotel and guest house licence that has been approved in each district in Pahang between 2013 and 2016.
Sharkar in his written reply said 287 licences were approved for hotel and guest house throughout the state over the last four years. Meanwhile, the Pahang State Legislative Assembly today unanimously passed a motion condemning the ongoing violence against Rohingyas in Myanmar. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said the move to withdraw the football team from competing in the AFF Cup tournament alone is not enough as the focus should be on a bigger picture including finding a long term solution.
