Tioman Island is a heaven for divers of all levels. The calm water and dive sites such as the little islands of Renggis and Soyak are ideal for beginners and underwater photography. Dive sites like Chebeh and Magicienne Rock are popular among advanced divers. They occasionally sighted huge Manta Rays, Whale Shark, Black Tip Reef Shark, Great Barracuda, and Turtles.
The surfboards hit the waves when the islands close their doors to the public and the divers retire. The surf season usually starts from October/November to February/March. Typically the beaches on the East Coast become a no-entry danger zone during the monsoon season because of the relentless rain, angry winds, and ferocious waves, but now it just means it’s a good day to go surfing.
Shopping for souvenirs is an exciting experience in Pahang. There are souvenir stalls in almost every town in the state, especially in areas around Kuantan, Cerating and Pekan. Shopping malls in Kuantan include the Kuantan City Mall, East Coast Mall, Teruntum Complex, Kuantan Parade and Berjaya Megamall. Visitors in search of novelty items and unique buys can visit the pasar malam or nightmarkets. Get a range of souvenirs from crafts made of pandanus leaves to woodcarvings and batik.
At the Chendor Turtle Sanctuary, from May to September, visitors can watch green turtles and occasionally giant leatherbacks toil ashore to lay eggs. The Turtle Sanctuary is managed by the Fisheries Department which also provides an information centre. This sanctuary is a tribute to the gentle giants of the South Seas, the near-extinct Leatherback turtles, that made Chendor Beach their destination of choice to lay their eggs. The Chendor Turtle Sanctuary is only a few minutes' drive from Cherating.
