Zahid: No village will be left behind in Malaysia's development drive - October 23, 2025

KUALA LIPIS: The government will ensure that no village is left behind in the nation's development agenda, particularly in the provision of essential infrastructure such as roads that serve as vital lifelines for rural communities. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the initiative underscored the government's commitment to advancing national development, as basic infrastructure forms the backbone of economic wellbeing for the people. Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said such facilities benefited all levels of society — from students travelling to school, to farmers heading to their fields, and workers commuting to their workplaces. "Roads that are built stand as a testament to the perseverance and aspirations of rural communities seeking progress in tandem with the nation's development. The provision of basic infrastructure reflects the government's care and commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind, regardless of where they live," he said when officiating the opening of the road and bridge connecting Kampung Labu, Jerantut, to Kampung Mela here today. Also present were Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Deputy Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad. The 15km stretch, constructed at a cost of RM157 million, reduces the travel distance between the two locations from 60km previously. Zahid said infrastructure projects such as roads were not merely about connectivity, but were also carefully planned to stimulate economic, tourism, agricultural, and entrepreneurial activities. He added that such developments created new income opportunities for local residents, particularly the younger generation, encouraging them to build their future within their own villages. "For instance, this newly opened road could become a major tourism corridor in Pahang, linking Taman Negara in Kuala Tahan, Jerantut, to Cameron Highlands via Kuala Lipis and Genting Highlands in Bentong. "This route will serve as a strategic link to showcase Pahang's natural beauty and cultural heritage to the world," he said. Zahid stressed that despite global economic challenges, the government remained steadfast in prioritising the people's wellbeing. He added that the Rural and Regional Development Ministry ministry would continue strengthening rural infrastructure for the benefit of the people. "Furthermore, we will continue to create economic opportunities so that every family in rural areas can enjoy a better, more prosperous and dignified life. "Under Budget 2026, a total of RM12.4 billion has been allocated to the ministry — an increase of RM440 million compared with this year," he said. Of that allocation, RM7.78 billion would be channelled specifically towards development projects, including road construction, electricity and water supply, telecommunications, and social amenities to benefit 8.1 million rural residents, he added.
