KUANTAN: Kuantan will host the 5th World Islamic Tourism Conference (WITC) 2026 on Nov 5 and 6, marking the first time the event is held outside the Klang Valley.
The conference will bring together policymakers, tourism leaders and industry players to discuss developments, strengthen partnerships and explore opportunities in the Muslim-friendly tourism sector.
Islamic Tourism Centre (ITC) director-general Mohammad Faisal Abu Suaib Khan said the event provided a platform for global stakeholders to discuss the future of Muslim-friendly tourism.
"We want to encourage a more inclusive approach to travel, one that recognises the needs of Muslim travellers while welcoming people of all backgrounds.
"The conference in Kuantan offers an opportunity to showcase not only our country's strengths, but also Pahang's rich cultural heritage, natural attractions and hospitality," he said in a statement.
Faisal said discussions would cover emerging tourism opportunities, industry collaboration and the development of Muslim-friendly tourism offerings, alongside strategic partnerships and business networking.
The event is expected to attract 240 international participants from nearly 40 countries, including speakers, delegates and students.
Ahead of the conference, the Muslim-Friendly Assurance Symposium and Knowledge will be held on Nov 4, bringing together academics, researchers and industry representatives to discuss current issues, share research findings and explore collaboration opportunities.
The conference will also run alongside WITC Mart from Nov 6 to 8, giving businesses, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and other industry players an opportunity to showcase their products and services and explore business opportunities.
Organised by ITC, an agency under the Tourism, Arts and Culture Ministry, this year's conference carries the theme "Faith and Family Beyond Borders".
