Mat Kilau was believed to have been born in 1865/1866 at Kampung Masjid Pulau Tawar, Jerantut, Pahang during the reign of Sultan Ahmad Al-Muadzam Shah. His full name is Mat Kilau bin Imam Rasu @ Tok Gajah. His mother is Mahda, the son of Tok Kaut Burau. Mat Kilau is good at reading, berzanji and think maulud as well as studying the rebana-shaped deny known as 'Dikir Pahang'. Mat Kilau's hobbies are playing hard and hard-fighting so it's always a champion in his village. When he was about 20 years old, Mat Kilau married a girl named Yang Chik binti Imam Daud, Kampung Kedondong. The result of this marriage, Mat Kilau has been blessed with three children. Mat Kilau is among the well-known Pahang heroes.
